Our Story
Courtney and Jake met in the thriving metropolis of Northfield, Minnesota. Jake first saw Courtney sitting on a couch in Carleton’s Gould Library, a place where she spent much of her time and he spent almost none. He immediately asked their mutual friend, Ari, “who is that girl?”, his insatiable curiosity getting the best of him.
What followed was a drawn out courting process, which Courtney describes as a period of “circling each other like wolves”. In reality, she was the wolf and he was more like a man lost in the woods. On numerous occasions she tried to set him straight, with varying degrees of bite and bark.
It wasn’t until they met up in San Francisco, in a neighborhood neither cares to remember, that their relationship truly began. For the first 8 months their love blossomed at a distance, with her in Minneapolis and him in Oakland. He tried to convince her to move in, after their first date, but in her deeply analytical way she concluded that would be a rash decision. So they visited often, and she was only somewhat dissuaded by the fact that he had no bed sheets, and was insistent on using sleeping bags. Every visit was a wild adventure. They raised chickens, and kayaked in Lake Merritt, and even met Jake’s friends in Philadelphia. But in time their love grew too strong to be kept at a distance, so Jake quit his job and moved to Minnesota (and then nine months later they moved back to California, because it’s better).

San Diego
San Diego is one of our favorite places (and Courtney’s hometown!). We think the New York Times sums up best:
San Diego has its own particular brand of laid-back cool. The coastal city is made up of distinct neighborhoods, each adorned with its own retro-style, street-spanning sign. This is a city that knows how to have a good time. With more than its fair share of sunshine, gorgeous beaches and a newly buzzing restaurant scene, San Diego is a vacation spot for those looking for low-stress California fun.
A few things to do in America’s Finest City:
Check out the sea lions over at La Jolla Cove or take a dip in the ocean for some swimming, diving, snorkeling, and cave exploring.
If golf is your thing, book a tee time at Torrey Pines public golf course.
Rent some surfboards or bike the boardwalk over at Mission Beach.
San Diego is known for its world class craft beer—there are dozens of amazing breweries to explore but we recommend you make time for a tasting at Stone Brewing or visit The Brew Project in Hillcrest to try them all!
The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the largest oceanographic museum in the United States and is well worth a visit. We’re aquarium people!
Stop by the historic Hotel del Coronado, a favorite getaway of Frank Sinatra, Walt Disney, and Greta Garbo. Take a walk along the beach or wander around the hotel to see where the movie Some Like it Hot was filmed.
Pay the pandas a visit at the San Diego Zoo, just a 5-minute drive from downtown.
Founded in 1769, Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is California’s first Spanish settlement. Today you can tour the remaining historic sites, museums, grab some great Mexican food, and even visit a tequila bar all inside the park!
